Holyoke Firefighters Participate in Cardboard Carnival Charitable Event

On Staurday March 10th Holyoke Firefighters Local 1693, spearheaded by Bob Lyle, Russ Bartlett, Ray Ortiz and Chris Stortz, entered the Lazer 99.3 (Coors Light) "Cardboard Carnival" for a local charity. The sled with its crew (Bob, Russ, Chris) recorded a respectable time of 24 seconds. Best Of All the sled took "Best Of Show" awarded $200.00 and a Coors Light snowboard. The sled team voted to raffle the snowboard at one of our future home charity hockey games, with the proceeds going to that charity. Great job guys!!!

Massive Fire claims Three Buildings and Leaves One with Fire Damage

Shortly after 0215 hours on March 7, Group C was toned out for a fully involved house on Pine and Suffolk St's. Units arrived to find a 2 story wood frame fully involved with fire beginning to extend to exposures. The fire, which gained "some" headway, eventually claimed 3 buildings and 1 additional building left with fire damage. Fire crews were on scene throughout the day extinguishing hot spots. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by the Arson Squad.

33 Year Veteran Fire Lieutenant Retires

On Wednesday February 29, 2012 Lieutenant Kevin McDonnell walked into Station #3 on Northampton Street and said to his father, Lieutenant Dan McDonnell, "You are relieved". After 33 years of honorable and dedicated service to the citizens of Holyoke, that day would be Lt. McDonnell's last shift. He was retiring. Lt. McDonnell was appointed to the Department on August 19, 1979. Most of his career was spent during the peak of fires in Holyoke. Lt. "Dan" was one of the most respected and well liked officers on the department. The Holyoke Fire Fighters Local 1693 would like to thank Lt. Veteran Alarm Room Operator Retires After 20 Years of Service

On Friday February 10, 2012 Alarm Room Operator William Bourbeau retired from the Holyoke Fire Department after 20 years of honorable service to the citizens of Holyoke. Operator Bourbeau was appointed to the Department on February 10, 1992. He was know for his enthusiastic tone while dispatching a call and also for playing Santa Claus for the childrens christmas party every year. The Holyoke Fire Fighters Local 1693 would like to thank Operator Bourbeau for your many years of dedicated service and wish you a long and happy retirement. Click here for pics
